assisting students of McKinley High School in Chicago, IL, Grambling State University and Tuskegee University.
The Bessye Mae Thedford Memorial Grant honors the life and legacy of Bessye Mae Thedford, a dedicated educator whose career spanned nearly four decades.
Born and raised in West Monroe, Louisiana, Bessye Mae Thedford graduated from McKinley High School before earning a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. She went on to teach in the Chicago Public School System for 38 years, shaping the lives of countless students as an elementary school teacher.
In her memory, this grant supports the next generation of educators — students who share her belief in the power of teaching to change lives.
The Bessye Mae Thedford Memorial Grant provides financial assistance to students pursuing a degree through one of two eligibility pathways.
Eligibility Criteria & Required Documents
